    The GCHS Alumni Association has broadened the eligibility of students who may apply for the $500 scholarships they will be awarding this year. Seniors who are graduating from Lake Roosevelt High School have been eligible since 2001, when the association awarded their first two scholarships, and this year any graduating senior from any high school who is a direct descendant of a person who attended Grand Coulee School District 55 at any time may also apply.     Grand Coulee Police 3/29 - An Electric City driver was stopped because the vehicle she was driving didn’t have a rear license plate. The officer found that the woman had a suspended license and a fake trip permit. A passenger asked if he could get the trip permit for the officer because there were 11 terrior-type puppies in the back seat. Since the passenger didn’t have a driver’s license, the two were told not to drive.     Joanne Eagle and Janet O'Neil do a little dance after having served the majority of the more than 90 who turned out for the first crab feed put on by the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce Saturday.     Grand Coulee Police 3/21 - A call of a burglary in progress on A Street brought officers who found doors on a vacant residence open. The police stated that they had been to the house earlier and found the doors open and secured them at that time. The officers went through the house, found no one, and secured the doors again. - Police attempted a welfare check at a house on Second Street. The event served about 350 people and raised more than $5,000, including the proceeds from a silent auction, to help with buying gear for the firefighters of Okanogan County Fire District 2.     Grand Coulee Police 3/12 - A dispute over a niece smoking pot at a Weil Place residence brought police. It was decided that the niece and uncle would leave the house for the night. - A woman told police that she received a counterfeit $20 bill when getting change from Safeway. Police took the fake bill as evidence. 3/13 - Dispatch advised police that someone had been seen dropping off a bag in a field near East Grand Avenue in Electric City.     Peter Dan Road is closed following a landslide last week between mile marker 0 and 2.5. A detour through Buffalo Lake Road is marked by signage. The closure is expected to be long-term, according to Okanogan County Public Works' Gary George. "Unfortunately, we won't be able to touch it until the hillside stabilizes and dries out," George told the Tribal Tribune. No reopen date is projected as of yet.     Inland Northwest Blood Center along with the Grand Coulee community blood drive volunteers, are planning a blood drive for Monday, March 20. Donation hours will be from 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the community room in Coulee Medical Center. INBC needs an average of 200 blood donors every day to meet the needs of more than 35 hospitals in the Inland Northwest. A single donation can save the lives of up to three people!     Grand Coulee Police 3/6 - Vandals did about $125 damage at Young’s Welding. Boys with long skateboards were thought to be responsible. The suspects tipped a display over and broke a rock, the police report stated. 3/7 - USBR Plant Protection was notified by a citizen of two small juveniles on the Coulee Dam bridge who appeared to be distraught. The department tried to contact Coulee Dam police, but when they couldn’t, a Grand Coulee officer drove to Coulee Dam.     Grand Coulee Police 2/21 - Police checked on a disturbance at a Hill Avenue apartment. Police encountered a woman who refused to stop and went around the corner of the apartment complex, where she fell, breaking her ankle. She had complained that a man had hit her. A woman who said he had not was found to be wanted on a warrant, arrested and taken to Grant County jail.     A Northern Saw-whet Owl peers out from a pine perch at Steamboat Rock State Park Jan. 22. The nocturnal birds are small, just 7 or 8 inches long, but are fierce hunters of small mammals.
