National Park Service officials reported to police that someone had prowled a vehicle and took a purse with two credit cards inside, which they later tried to use at the Safeway store in Grand Coulee. The vehicle prowl occurred within the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Residents of Electric City could receive a Parks and Trails Survey as early as this week. The survey asks more than 20 questions about how residents view their city and what their needs are for the future. The survey came out of a community meeting held Jan. 20, at Coulee Medical Center, and is tied to Electric City’s plan to put in a pathway and trail system using tourism-dedicated lodging tax funds to do so. The Grand Coulee Dam Yacht Club has been working on tearing out its aging docks at Eden Harbor over the last three weeks to make way for new ones. Keith St. Jeor said Friday, while pulling the old docks apart, that the club had determined it made sense to replace them. They were installed in 1981-82. A proposed trail system in Electric City will get an airing from a number of organizations next Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., in the Coulee Medical Center conference room. The Bureau of Reclamation’s new fire station will be built early in 2017, an official said Monday. Public Affairs Officer Lynne Brougher said current plans call for construction to start early in 2017, and that it would take about a year to construct the 21,500-square-foot facility. Bureau of Reclamation officials announced Friday that it will build its 21,500-square-foot fire station near the intersection of B Street and Highway 155. Three important steps are in the works for Electric City’s pathway project. That project would, if everything worked out, build a pedestrian and bicycle pathway from Sunbanks Lake Resort to North Dam Park, in different phases. The Bureau has identified two sites to build a 21,500-square-foot fire station. The National Park Service here has landed a traveling quilt show for July 1-4, 2016, as part of a celebration of its 100th anniversary. First, let’s do a recap of temperatures and precipitation for July. I recorded four days with a high in excess of 100°F. July 2, 3, 4, and 31 were all above 100°F. The high for the month was on the 3rd at 104.1°F. Our low of the month was on the 26th at 52.3°F. My data shows that just about half the month of July was 90°F or above.
