This week marks the beginning of Trees of Sharing 2013. The community-wide Trees of Sharing program is a special way that Grand Coulee Dam area residents may anonymously bless local children who might not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas season. Grand Coulee Dam District schools will take part and allow Native students to participate in a Colville Indian suicide prevention day this Friday. Karee Picard, manager of the Colville Tribes’ K-12 Youth Program, appeared before the school board Monday night asking members to allow a minute of silence during lunch hour Friday to remember those on the reservation who have succumbed because of suicide. He is accused of two counts of second-degree child molestation, sexual misconduct and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. Towns to put up lights The city and town crews from Electric City, Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam, will put up the Christmas lights this year. This came out of the Regional Board of Mayors meeting Monday as Electric City Mayor Jerry Sands said he had heard from the other mayors who were willing to share the lights and have their respective crews put them up in their own municipalities. Mill to reopen The Omak Wood Products mill will have a private grand opening, Monday, Oct. 7, The Star newspaper learned Friday. A spokesperson said that Washington Gov. Grand Coulee Dam School District Superintendent Dennis Carlson told his board Monday night that the K-12 school construction venture is back on schedule. “The elementary side of the project will be enclosed by the end of October, allowing workers to be indoors during the winter,” he said. Ten Years Ago A spaghetti dinner and auction was held at the Electric City Vets Center to raise money for Cindy Corpe to help pay her medical bills from a recent accident at work. $8,000 to $9,000 was raised for her medical bills and Cindy said she cried when she saw how many people showed up.
