She was the second of three children born to Clifford and Bessie Middleton. She attended school in Clarkford and Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Jean obtained her lifetime teaching certificate from Lewiston Normal and taught in Oldtown and Sandpoint One of her students introduced her to his older brother, Ervin Henke.     Lake Roosevelt is being held at a level about 47 feet below the full mark while maintenance is completed on the drum gates that hold the water back when the lake is full. The Bureau of Reclamation reports the lake will likely remain below 1,255 feet above sea level until May 10.   • New deputy power manager announced for Grand Coulee Dam

    The Bureau of Reclamation’s Pacific Northwest Region announced that Tim Koczur has been selected as the new deputy power manager at Grand Coulee Dam. Koczur will serve as a member of the management team, providing leadership and direction for the Grand Coulee Power Office, the bureau said in a press release. He assumed his new duties April 5. Koczur has worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for eight years. Since 2011, he has served as the facility manager for seven dams and six power plants along the North Platte River in Wyoming.   • Architectural firm will produce study of school district

    Design West, the architectural firm that designed the new schools here, has been hired to do the school district’s “study and survey.” The school study and survey is done every six years and is financed out of a grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The cost of the study and survey the last two times it’s been done in the Grand Coulee Dam School District has been $7,441.     The Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing its "Run The Dam" race for its second year, working hard to make it an annual event that participants can't pass up, organizers said. This year the races on the Saturday of the Colorama festival will be starting with a "wave start" due to a minor course change to keep the runners safety the top priority, said Mandy Button, in charge of the event for the chamber.     1 years ago Coulee Community Hospital opened its newly designed birthing room on March 16, 1995, a $20,000 project funded by the Coulee Medical Foundation and celebrating its 10-year anniversary and 516 deliveries this spring. Another birthing room became necessary by 1998 which was satisfied by remodeling a patient room, complete with infant warmers and birthing beds.     The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $7.2 million contract to Gardner Zemke Company of Albuquerque, New Mexico, to replace the switchgear for six pump-generators at the John W. Keys III Pump-Generating Plant, a part of the “Grand Coulee Power Complex,” the Bureau of Reclamation said in a press release.     A fire early Monday morning destroyed the office and storage area of the DWK Fowler Construction Company in Delano. The fire broke out about 6:15, and when firefighters responded they found smoke coming out of the eaves of the building. Firefighters had trouble accessing the fire through the roof because of metal roofing, building owner Wayne Fowler said.     Center Elementary School and its surrounding property is officially for sale. The Grand Coulee Dam School District board had declared the property surplus in February, and after a public hearing to determine what to do with the property Monday night, it decided to list the building and the total 8.5 acres. The school board also authorized Superintendent Dennis Carlson to order an appraisal of the building and property. Only a single resident, Hank Wiebe, spoke to the board about the property.
