Grand Coulee Police 9/7 - Officers checked on a report from Tribal Police that a stolen vehicle was at a location on Sunny Drive in Electric City. The man who had the vehicle was arrested on a Department of Corrections detainer. He told police that he had made a down payment on the vehicle and still owed $2,800. The woman who owned the car stated that the man didn’t have permission to take the vehicle. The man was taken to Grant County Jail on the DOC detainer. Truck declared surplus Grand Coulee’s city council declared surplus a 1977 Ford F900 pumper truck at its meeting last Tuesday night. It’s now up for sale and only has about 20,000 miles on it, but it has other problems relating to pumps, etc. The council also put some computer equipment on the surplus list. Serving the library Joyce DeChenne was named to fill a vacant position on the Grand Coulee Library Board. She was recommended to the council by chair Diane Canady. Grand Coulee Police 9/2 - Officers responded to a call about a disturbance on Bowen Street and were told that a man with a crowbar who was wanted on a warrant had been at the residence and then left before police arrived. Grand Coulee Police 8/25 - Police received a call from dispatch that there was a car prowl going on in the 1st Street area. A woman told the officer that a man had the hood up of a car and was looking inside. A check on the car showed that the battery was missing. Police went to a location in the Delano area where there was a similar car and found a man who said he was the one looking under the hood and he was just trying to determine how a part fit together. Bank holds school supplies drive North Cascades Bank in Grand Coulee began its month-long “School Supplies Drive” last Friday. The bank will be accepting through the month of August any school supplies, or monetary donations to use towards buying supplies, to support local schools. Sports physicals offered Coulee Medical Center is offering sports physicals on Aug. 13 and 20 from 9 a.m, to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. until 4:30. Cost of the physical is $20. A Maryland man was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday three miles west of Grand Coulee on SR-174. Newton C. Pereira, 57, of Brookeville, Md., was dead at the scene, after striking a 2003 Chevrolet Venture van. Three of the occupants of the van had unknown injuries and were taken to Coulee Medical Center for observation and treatment.
