1 years ago Sylvan "Smitty" Smith, 91, on this coming May 27, started playing golf at age 50 and just got his first hole-in-one last week on the 11th hole on the Banks Lake Golf Course, which is 143 feet long, and one of four par-three holes on the course. After the first day, Jessica Tufts could boast that she'd outfished her husband, dad and father-in-law in the third annual Triple Fish Challenge on Coulee Playland at Banks Lake. Jessica caught the biggest smallmouth bass (3.35 pounds) on Saturday, although her husband, Alex, reeled in the best trout on day two (2.51). 1 Years ago Total Health Events, LLC, of Blaine, Wash, the same company that put on last fall’s triathlon, is hosting the “Over The Dam Run” 5K/10K and a half marathon on Sunday, May 8 on Colorama weekend. The original race began in 1977, organized annually by an avid group of runners from the Coulee, Spokane and eastern Washington, but numbers of participants in recent years has dwindled. The Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing its "Run The Dam" race for its second year, working hard to make it an annual event that participants can't pass up, organizers said. This year the races on the Saturday of the Colorama festival will be starting with a "wave start" due to a minor course change to keep the runners safety the top priority, said Mandy Button, in charge of the event for the chamber.
