  • Coulee Dam to hire code enforcer

    Roger S Lucas|Aug 19, 2015

The town of Coulee Dam is going to hire a code enforcer. The council gave its approval last Tuesday night, at least to try out the idea for the rest of this calendar year. The council approved a plan by the mayor to hire a code enforcer for 25 hours a month at $22 an hour, but stopped short of making it a permanent position. The town council took up the enforcement issue just prior to voting down a chicken ordinance that would have allowed residents to keep up to four hens. The code enforcer issue came up during earlier chicken discussions, whe... Full story

  • No takers on old school and land

    Roger S Lucas|Aug 12, 2015

The Grand Coulee Dam School District’s effort to sell Center School hit a snag last week when it failed to get a single bid. The old school building and the total of eight acres was put on the chopping block and advertised for sale in July with an Aug. 5 opening of bids scheduled. While there were three requests for information about the building and property, no one chose to bid on it. The school district purchased the property from Continental Land Company in October, 2014, for $155,000. And since has spent about $10,000 to get the p... Full story

  • Chicken ordinance to get second reading in C.D.

    Roger S Lucas|Aug 5, 2015

Next Wednesday night people will gather in Coulee Dam to talk about chickens. Are they likely to answer once and for all the two top chicken questions that have confronted civilization for decades: “Why did the chicken cross the road?” and “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” Probably not. But they will talk and probably make a decision on whether residents of Coulee Dam can keep a few chickens, legally. The town council will have its second reading Aug. 12, of its chicken ordinance, and likely face again a number of people either mouthi... Full story

The town council has repeatedly indicated that it would be in its best interest to own its own plant. Their decision will partially be based on the results of an alternative analysis now being prepared by Indian Health Services.
