    Six Lake Roosevelt Raiders made the Central Washington 2B North All League basketball squads this season, including an MVP, and the boys' coach was named coach of the year. First-year Head Coach Matt Simpson was recognized as "Coach of the Year" for the CWL 2B North, having led the young Raider boys to a winning record and a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association regional tournament appearance.     The Raiders' season came to an end Saturday as the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Broncos came away with the 67-49 victory in the the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association regional matchup at Cheney High School. The game pitted the Lake Roosevelt team, with no seniors, five players over 6-0 and combined experience of 170 games; against L-R-S, with six seniors, eight players over 6-0 and 186 games in their history.     Raider wrestlers completed another successful Mat Classic by finishing fifth overall in the state tournament in Tacoma last weekend. Of the five Raiders in the B classification competition, three came home with medals. Kodie Horn joins an elite group of Raider wrestlers as the State B 145-pound champion for 2014.Horn defeated all his opponents by pin to make it nine straight pins in the postseason that included sub-regional and regional 145-pound championships to end his senior season.     In overtime, the Raiders secured second place in the district tournament Saturday against a foe that had twice beaten them in the regular season. "We came in ready to play and prove that we deserved to be there," Raider Head Coach Matt Simpson said.     The Lady Raiders finished the 2013-14 season Saturday with a second-place finish in the Central Washington 2B North and a third-place in the District 5-6 Tournament. In overtime, Oroville ended the Lady Raiders' season in the district tournament in Wenatchee. Head Coach Wallace Pleasants said he is proud of the way the girls played this season despite all the injuries that affected the team.     Raider wrestling travelled to Kittitas on Valentine’s Day and came home Saturday Night with two Eastern Washington B Regional champions and five moving on to the 26th annual Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome this weekend. “We had another good tournament,” Head Coach Steve Hood commented on the regional tourney.     Following two successive wins in the last week of their regular season, the Raiders will head to the district playoffs tonight with solid win-loss record improved over last season's. The Raiders ended the regular season on a two-game win streak to improve their record to 11-9 overall and 6-5 in league play.     The Raider boys lost two games last week, just as squads are jockeying for district berths, giving them a 9-9 win-loss record overall, 4-5 in league play. The Raiders now need to win out to hold on to the number-two spot in the Central Washington 2B North to make it to the district tournament.     Eight of nine Raider wrestlers competing finished in the top six of their weight brackets at the North Sub-Regional tournament at Northwest Christian Feb. 8, sending them on to the next step on the way to the state tournament in Tacoma. “Eight wrestlers will move on to regionals,” said Head Coach Steve Hood. “We had a good tournament.” Lake Roosevelt had two sub-regional champions.     The Lady Raiders picked up two road wins last week at Bridgeport and Manson, lifting their overall win-loss record to 7-8 and their Central Washington 2B record to 5-2. Lake Roosevelt is in second place in the north half of the league, with a two-game lead over the Bridgeport Fillies. The Lady Raiders started the Jan. 28 game at Bridgeport slow. At Bridgeport, the Raiders started out slow having trouble in the rebounding department and in playing consistently at both ends of the court, but established a lead at the end of the first quarter, 19-11.     Eleven Raider wrestlers will compete at the sub-regional meet on Saturday at Northwest Christian High School in Colbert. Action starts at 11 a.m. At the sub-regional, the top six wrestlers at each weight class will move on to the regional tournament at Kittitas on the Feb. 15.     Having suffered a four-point loss earlier in the week, the Lake Roosevelt boys were looking to rebound Saturday when they hosted the Hornets of Oroville. They got their bounce. In the first quarter, LR did not score for six minutes and 30 seconds. At the end of the first LR was down 13-4.     Raider wrestlers claimed the B championship at the Washington Dream Duals held in Spokane Valley Saturday. The tourney at East Valley High School featured nine mats in two gyms and a cafeteria, with 30 teams from all classifications taking part. LR was one of four B schools in the Dream Duals; the others being Mary Walker (Springdale), Northwest Christian, and Selkirk.     After a big win over Manson, the Raider boys dropped their win-loss record to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in Central Washington 2B play after losses to Kittitas and White Swan last week.     Raider wrestling had a rare three-contest week, travelling to Wilbur, Okanogan, and Royal City. The first match of the week was at Wilbur Jan. 14 for a mixer against Wilbur-Creston, Republic, Almira-Coulee-Hartline, and Lakeside.     The Raiders defeated Entiat at home on the 11th due in part to a high scoring fourth quarter. LR won by the score of 51-42 over the Tigers to improve the Raiders' win-loss record to 5-4 overall.     The opt-up deadline for the 2014-16 classification cycle has passed and the final number counts are in. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s 2B category will hold 59 schools in the new classification cycle, up 11 from the current cycle. The number spread for 2B in the 2014-16 cycle will be 92-225 students in grades 9-11. After a heated school board meeting, in which many spoke for and against moving down, Okanogan decided to drop down to 2B rather than opt up to 1A.     The Raiders split at the Tonasket Holiday Tournament Dec. 27-28 to take home third place, then defeated Waterville Jan. 4 to go 2-1 on the holiday break.
