January 29, 1933 – May 11, 2026
Jim died May 11, 2026 at 93 years of age. A life well lived. He was born to parents Spencer and Lucille Frost. He grew up on a ranch at the end of the road in Oakville with two younger brothers and horses. He was surrounded by a loving family and treasured friends, some of whom were life-long friends. After graduation from Oakville High School, he enlisted in the US AirForce and was stationed at Hickham AF Base in Hawaii on a flight crew that traveled to many foreign countries, creating experiences he never forgot. He was proud to have been an American service member. He came home after discharge with the mumps. He enrolled in an apprentice program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton where he trained to be an electrician. Employment at Grand Coulee Dam started in 1962.
He met Alice Barber at the local dance hall – Swede Hall. They married in 1960 and danced many miles during their 65 years of marriage. Three children joined the family in Coulee Dam. Ray. Marie, and Allan. He was a good Dad who taught them lots of things. He liked to play and he played hard, but not until the chores were done. He built a jet boat in the basement and the family water skied on Banks Lake during the summer. He was an avid hunter who hunted with his Dad, until Spence's death. They hunted deer in the High Cascades, the Methow Valley, and in Alberta, Canada for moose. He loved the outdoors and organized many backpacking trips to beautiful lakes in the Cascades. One backpacking trip took him and the family to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in Arizona and another he and Alice hiked in the Copper Canyon in Mexico's Sierra Madre Mts. He retired in 1988 with 34 years government service. He was serious about his job and appreciated being a part of the Grand Coulee Project.
After retirement he enjoyed time at their lovely home in Seaton's Grove. He gardened and supplied the neighbors with his delicious cantaloupe. His peach tree was his favorite. Nothing better than those juicy gems. He was instrumental in getting a new water system rebuilt for the community. Cross Country skiing became his next pastime and the couple spent many days in British Columbia on the trails. And, also, at Loup Loup Pass near Twisp, where he led a volunteer effort to rebuild and maintain trails there. He also skied downhill. They wore out one camper on road trips and had lots of miles on another. Always in need of a project, he built an ultralight airplane in the basement. He flew it for 25 years and enjoyed every minute. New friends were made and being a part of the airplane community was a pleasure. After his daughter and husband purchased their home, he lived in the same basement in an apartment where he made so many memories. One of the last things he said was that it is such a beautiful place to live.
He is survived by his wife, Alice. Son, Raymond (Amanda). Daughter, Marie (Dennis Hungerford). And, Son, Allan. Nephews, Jim (Lesley), Vance (Tammy), and niece, Ann Frost. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Ronald and Wayne. A memorial service and luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 o'clock in the Coulee Dam City Hall, 300 Lincoln Drive in Coulee Dam.
