James (93) and Doris Cobb (90), formerly of Coulee Dam and now residing in Utah, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 11, 2026. The couple were married in Ogden, Utah, at the home of Doris's parents, beginning a lifetime of love, service, and dedication to family and community.
Throughout his career, James worked as a power plant operator at numerous locations across the western United States. Let's take a look at his incredible journey. First, we start at Wanship Dam. Next comes Jim's first highlight of his professional career would be at Willard Bay in Utah-where he released the first water into Willard Bay. Second he would then move on to Causey Dam, which is on the South Fork of the Ogden River. Third, Jim would take a job at Parker Dam on the Colorado River in California and Arizona. His fourth stop would continue at the Minidoka Dam on the Snake River in Rupert, Idaho. Jim started to realize it was time to stop moving around and plant roots with his family. The spot they would choose would be the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in Washington State where he eventually retired. Realizing he still had the drive and desire he returned to work at Dry Falls Dam near Coulee City at Banks Lake in Washington State where he eventually would retire for good.
Doris devoted her time to her family and community as a homemaker and dedicated volunteer. She contributed her time to organizations such as music boosters, hospital auxiliary boards, visitor centers, and served as a homeroom mother for her children's school. Nominated by her children, she was honored as "Mother of the Year" for the Colorama Parade. Doris also brought beauty to her community by purchasing flowers from a local greenhouse and planting them in pots around Harvest Foods in Coulee Dam-a tradition she continued for many years. She was especially known for her kindness, regularly checking in on and caring for elderly neighbors.
Together, James and Doris are the parents of four daughters: MaryAlice (1957–1964), Melinda Jones, Melissa Dickerson (Dean), and Maryel Maguire (David). They are proud grandparents to six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
This remarkable milestone was celebrated with a special gathering hosted by their family, honoring a lifetime of love, commitment, and cherished memories.
