Anita Corinne Condon

Anita Corinne Condon, born September 1, 1946 in Coulee Dam to Eugenia and Calvin “Jack” Condon, passed away October 21,2025.

Anita grew up at the Colville agency where Jack raised registered quarter horses. Her best memories were of working with the horses with her dad and riding her beloved horses in the pastures and hills around the Agency. Anita was very active in 4-H - especially sewing, cooking and showing horses at fair.

Anita graduated from Coulee Dam High School in 1964, where her activities included band and pep club. She attended WSU and EWC where she earned her BA in Office Administration in 1972.

She married Jerry Spadey in 1968 but divorced a few years later. Anita worked for the Spokane Police department for 24 years, retiring in 1996.

Anita and her husband Tom Smith raised and raced Quarter horses in Washington, Idaho and Montana. One of their mares, Jet Whistle, was fastest on the circuit one year.

Upon retirement, Anita moved “back home” to Coulee Dam. She was unable to keep working with horses due to health issues, which included MS, but kept a strong interest in horse activities. Always a strong supporter of the Seahawks and Mariners, she also kept up on the activities of her “god children” Jarrod, Anderson and Collette. She was active in the Grand Coulee Dam Seniors and took her mother “Jeanie” on regular drives around the area. Despite her health, Anita had very strong determination and perseverance to keep active and in touch.

She will be remembered for her generosity to her friends and her love of horses, music, and her year-round Christmas tree
