Candidates can file until Friday

Candidate Filing Week in the state began on Monday, May 5 online and at county elections offices across the state. Declarations of Candidacy and full payment must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9.  

In the local area, 55 positions are open for citizens to declare candidacy. Across the state, eligible Washingtonians can declare candidacy for over 3,200 seats ranging from county positions to school boards and cemetery districts.

Candidates file through their county elections office. Applicants are encouraged to file online. Complete information about open offices and filing fees is available on the Office of the Secretary of State’s Elections website.

According to that site, here are offices up for election in the local area:

Cities

Grand Coulee: The mayor, and council positions 1, 2, and 4.

Electric City: Mayor and council positions 1 and 2

Coulee Dam: Mayor and council positions 1, 2, and 3.

Elmer City: Mayor and council positions 1, 2, and 3.

Nespelem: Mayor and council positions 1, 3, and 5.

School Districts

Grand Coulee Dam: Director positions 1, 2, and 5

Nespelem: Director positions 3, 4 at Large, 5 at Large.

Fire Districts

Okanogan 2 (Elmer City): Commissioner positions 1 and 3.

Grant County 14: Commissioner positions 2 and 3.

Lincoln County 9: Commissioner position 1.

Grant County Port District 7: Commissioner position 2.

Coulee Area Park and Recreation District: Commissioner positions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Hospital District 6: Commissioner positions 1, 2 and 5.
