You are invited to attend the re-naming ceremony May 27th, at 1 p.m. in the Tonasket Legacy Park. Highway #20 in Okanogan County will become the “Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Highway.”
The ceremony will have the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation Honor Guard presenting the colors, the Tribal Singers “The Citizens,” singing the honor song. Louie Wilson will be the master of ceremonies and will introduce the dignitaries in attendance. We have heard from our 4th District Congressman, Dan Newhouse, and our 7th District state representatives. Sen. Shelly Short, Rep. Joel Kretz, and Representative Jacquelin Maycumber hope to be attending; Their legislative calendars are hopefully going to allow them to attend.
Roy Jennings, Chairman of the Department of Transportation Commission, is going to be the keynote speaker. Then the Legacy staff will introduce the student scholarship winners. The 9th District Commander of the American Legion will install the officers from the American Legion Posts #82 and #84.
The audience will be asked to participate in a “meet and greet” with the veterans and dignitaries attending. We are proud to meet you and answer any questions. The ceremony will not last long, but come and enjoy some refreshments and meet everyone.
Hope to see you May 27th at 1 p.m., at the Armed Forces Legacy, in Tonasket. The citizens of Tonasket are celebrating the Memorial Day weekend, and there is a lot to do with the parade, rodeo, dinner and dancing. Help celebrate our veterans and enjoy the weekend in Tonasket.
Arnie Marchand
Second Vice Commander Louie Wilson
