Ninety-four children in 43 households had wrapped Christmas packages delivered to their homes Saturday, Dec. 17 thanks to Trees of Sharing 2022 volunteers who supported the project by making cash donations or purchasing gifts for children who might not have otherwise received one this season.

Trees of Sharing began in the Coulee in the mid-1980s with the express objective of assuring each child enrolled in the local school district would receive a gift at Christmastime. Every year since the vision was cast by then elementary school teacher Joyce Behrens, needy children in households stretching from Electric City to Belvedere have been the recipients of Trees of Sharing presents.

Trees of Sharing extends special appreciation to Spokane Teachers Credit Union, Coulee Family Medicine, Harvest Foods, North Cascades Bank, and Safeway Pharmacy for help with collecting children's names and displaying the trees with gift tags. We are also grateful to the Grand Coulee Community Church, the Lions Club, the American Legion, the Women's Auxiliary of the Eagles, Coulee Wall Variety for its generous discount, The Star newspaper for keeping our schedule up to date, and, of course, those shopping, wrapping, and delivery volunteers who stepped out on icy streets to make sure every child's wish was fulfilled. We appreciate your spirit and participation in this annual endeavor to bless Coulee area children at Christmastime.
