Sometimes it's hard to know where to look for help when it comes to things like getting food or energy assistance, or how to go about receiving medical care, but luckily some people specialize in connecting you to the right people.

The STAR Hub, located on Midway Avenue in Grand Coulee since November of 2021, is a division of Rural Resources Community Action, a non-profit based out of Colville, and they specialize in connecting people to organizations that may be able to help. 

The STAR acronym stands for Services, Transportation, Assistance, and Resources, and the hub is also thought of as being at the center of a star with Grand Coulee in the middle of multiple counties, Care Coordinator Molly Morris explained.

They hosted a "Back to School" Health Fair last week on Aug. 18 at which many organizations were available to talk about what kinds of services they offer, and to give away goodies ranging from pens and pencils to frisbees, water bottles, headphones, food, and more.

Organizations at the event included Renew, which provides behavioral health & wellness services in Grant County and has an office in Grand Coulee; North Central Accountable Community of Health; Aging & Adult Care; WorkSource; DentistLink; Coulee Medical Center; Action Health Partners; the Washington State Department of Health's Women, Infants, and Children program, Washington Apple Health; Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA), the Opportunities Industrial Center (OIC) from Moses Lake, and more.

Between all the organizations, people can find help with housing, health, counseling, food, jobs, finances, and more.

The STAR Hub also contracts with Coulee Medical Center and has a bus to help transport people in the general Coulee area to or from an appointment, when available, Transportation Coordinator Heather Williams said.

The STAR Hub, at 19 Midway Avenue in Grand Coulee, is open Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Fridays from 8 a.m. until noon.
