Auditions for Masquers' musical set for August 14

Auditions for the musical “Once on this Island” will be held on Sunday August 14 at 2:00pm and Monday August 15 at 6:00pm. Masquers Theater is located at 322 E Main St., Soap Lake WA. You will be asked to sing and do some simple dance steps.

Awash with color, a fantastic Caribbean score, and a story that has transcended time, “Once On This Island” is the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty set to usher in the return of musical theater at Masquers. “Once On This Island” is the sweeping, universal tale of Ti Moune, a fearless peasant girl searching for her place in the world and ready to risk it all when she saves the life of a rich boy, Daniel, who lives on the wealthy side of the island. Guided by the mighty island gods, Ti Moune sets out on a remarkable journey to reunite with the man who has captured her heart. Based upon the novel “My Love, My Love” by Rosa Guy, this groundbreaking musical represents a tropical and tragic retelling of the story The Little Mermaid. Filled with Caribbean influences and an intoxicating score, Once On this Island is a testament to the power of theater to evoke toe-tapping joy and tears while touching hearts and minds. This show was a 2018 Tony Award winner for best revival of a musical. A national professional Broadway production was halted in 2020 due to Covid.

The Production dates are October 21 - November 13 Friday & Saturday nights and Sunday matinees. The directors are Stacey & Clifford Bresee. Cast Age ranges 18 and older with 2 parts for younger teens. For additional information please check the Masquers website www.masquers.com.
