The circus is coming to town

A big top circus is coming to town June 2, and the sponsoring Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce is working to promote the event that was a big hit last time it came here.

The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus is planning two shows - at 5 and 7:30 p.m. But there's more to the experience they offer than watching from the bleachers.

Those who can are welcome to "watch the big top rise" at 9:30 a.m. that morning. "You'll also get a chance to tour the grounds, learn all about life on the road, see our beautiful animals, and learn about their care, and get a behind-the-scenes look at our show!" a press release says.

At 4 p.m. their "Midway" opens. That means pony rides, a "Moon Bounce," giant slide, face painting, and a concession stand. Oh, and the box office will open then, too.

The circus performances will last about 90 minutes and includes a new performance featuring big cats, aerialists, bareback horse riders, tight rope daredevils, clowns and more.

Chamber members Loepp Furniture and Appliance and Coulee Hardware have advance tickets on sale for $12 for adults, $7 for kids 2-12 or seniors over 65.

Tickets will also be available at the box office for $15 or $8 respectively.
