Orville John Scharbach

Orville John Scharbach, 99, of Liberty Lake and former Grand Coulee resident passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Guardian Angel Assisted Living surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 22, 1922, on a farm in Colton, WA to John and Anna (Semler) Scharbach. He attended and graduated from Colton High School in 1940. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy where he spent time as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Following WWII, he attended and graduated from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.

Orville met and married Margaret Gillies on June 26, 1949, at Wallace, ID. They moved the family to Okanogan in 1961 where Orville worked for Barnes Funeral Homes until 1975 when he purchased the funeral chapel in Grand Coulee and then in the early 1980's he purchased the Wilbur Funeral Home. He retired in 1986.

He loved to golf and was an avid runner and hiker and enjoyed his daily walks. Orville was past president of the Grand Coulee Rotary, former Grand Coulee City Councilman, and Grand Coulee School Board he was also on the Port District.

Orville is survived by his children: Mike & Jeannie Scharbach, David & Linda Scharbach, Christie Scharbach and Jeff & Kellie Scharbach; grandchildren: Jason, Nicole (Fabian), Tina (Anthony), Heidi (Jamie), Hunter; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Carsen, Brady, Tony, and Tyler. He is also survived by his sister, Marietta Parvey, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Scharbach in 2006, son, Tommy Scharbach in 1965, brother, Clarence Scharbach and sister, Evelyn Markham.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Omak Memorial Cemetery, 2517 Elmway, Okanogan, WA. Memorials may be made to either Hospice of Spokane or Guardian Angel Home, Liberty Lake, WA.
