A new picnic table accessible to people in wheelchairs will be available at the Colorama Rodeo May 6, donated by a local boy scout as his project for attaining the eagle rank.

David Bordon, of BSA Troop 24, presented the big table made of Douglas fir last Saturday to Ridge Riders Saddle Club President George Kohout at their rodeo grounds in Delano.

Borden said that he, one other scout, and his family helped with the effort, totaling over 200 hours and months of coordination on the project that came out close to the penny on his budget of a little over $400.

That included clamping the wood to make sure it would remain straight during the long winter, then finding a warm place to the finish to cure for at least 50 hours.

Bordon, who turns 18 in May, said he asked around about a good project and learned the Ridge Riders wanted a handicapped-accessible table. "That could work," he decided, and Saturday it was delivered.
