Raider wrestlers placed first as a team at the Davenport Tournament Dec. 4 when they garnered 262 points, the most out of nine teams, with Reardan placing second with 180.5 points.

“We did really well as a team, only losing a few matches all day,” Head Coach Billy Monroe said.

Five Lake Roosevelt wrestlers placed first including: Roger Cate, who placed first wrestling in the 113-pound division; Colton Jackson, who placed first at 126; Francis Louis who placed first at 145; Landon Krohn, who placed first at 170; Sergio Galicia, who placed first at 182; and Terek Bush, who placed first at 220.

 “Sergio Galicia had the match of the tournament in his finals match,” Monroe said. “It was a rematch from his sophomore year at state, which he lost against the Davenport kid for 5th and 6th [place]. He was down early and then hit a big throw to take the lead at the end of the second period. Sergio wrestled really smart the last period and scored another two points on takedowns.”

Galicia placed first at 182 over Samuel Schneider of Davenport with an 8-3 final score.

“Francis Louie and Rodger Cate also wrestled really well and showed a lot of potential as underclassmen,” Monroe said.

Louie placed first at 145, defeating Reardan’s Cody Routh 17-4. 

Cate placed first at 113 by pinning Jesse Rios of Kittitas one minute and eight seconds into the match.

Additionally, Julian Lopez placed second at 132; Teyton Flores placed third at 145; Elijah Marchand placed second at 152; Bosten Hevener placed fifth at 152; Christian Carson placed 4th at 160; John Desautel placed second at 220; Joseph Tynan placed second at 285; and Elijah Rasmussen placed fourth at 285. 

“I look forward to the Connell Tournament this weekend and feel we have the ability to win that tournament as well,” Monroe said. “We need to keep improving, though, and not be content with the results of this last weekend or we will get left behind by the other top teams in the B division.”

The Connell Tournament takes place in Connell at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
