Police

10/12 - A man and woman on Alcan Road and Yakima Street were arrested and taken to jail for burglary. The man was known to stay at a residence there, but the owner said he was not allowed in a storage shed where both had stored items without permission. The two had allegedly picked a lock to enter the shed and retrieve their own items. They were found there and arrested. Drug paraphernalia was also found. The man was adamant that the shed was unlocked, and that he didn’t break in.

10/14 - A man was cited for driving under the influence. The driver was pulled over near Federal and Midway Avenues after being observed driving over the center line and speeding. Sobriety tests with some missteps and breathalyzer tests showed blood alcohol content of 0.127 and above, with the legal limit being 0.08. His vehicle was towed.

- A man was pulled over near the intersection of SR-174 and SR-155 for having a front license plate but no rear license plate. He protested, saying he had a temporary registration in the back. That registration was written in pencil, but is required to be written in ink, and it appeared to have been changed. The man was told the vehicle couldn’t be on the road lawfully. Police were unable to contact the registered owner. The vehicle was towed.

- An officer parked at Pole Park clocked a car at 85 miles per hour in the 30 mph zone on SR-155. He followed the car into Coulee Dam to pull him over, which took some time as the driver didn’t appear to acknowledge the officer’s sirens and lights. Once the driver pulled over, police saw two open beer cans in the driver’s center console. He was arrested for driving under the influence and also ticketed for driving without a license, speeding, and failing to stop for the officer.

10/16 - One woman was charged with trespassing following an incident on Main Street. Reportedly, two women were invited over to a man’s residence to smoke marijuana. After an argument, the women were asked to leave. The man reportedly “corralled” the women out of his residence, and they tripped over each other in the process. One woman complained of a broken arm and later claimed in a statement that hospital personnel had to put it back in place. The other woman didn’t leave the man’s residence after being asked by him, and the officer, to do so, leading to the trespassing charge.

10/10 - Spruce Street kids were told to stay away from each other. One incident involved a kid having rocks thrown at him for playing basketball on a hoop that didn’t belong to him. The mother of one of the alleged rock throwers had said that the kid who had rocks thrown at him had had a pocketknife during a previous argument and that, although there was no assault with the knife, a child was concerned that he had one.

10/15 - Police received a report of two vehicles peeling out in a parking lot, blaring music, and driving to the lower visitor center with one of the vehicles possibly hitting something. Since the incident took place on U.S. Bureau of Reclamation property, the call was forwarded to the Grand Coulee Police Department, which performs services for the USBR.
