Susan Kay Alling passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday. Sep 7, 2021.

Sdhe was born Aug 5, 1947 and lived much of her life in the Grand Coulee Dam area. She moved to Spokane in 1993 for health reasons.

Sue ran an in-home daycare in Electric City for over 20 years; often operating on a 24/7 basis. She faithfully hauled daycare kids, her children, and often their friends to Spring Canyon each summer for swim lessons. She managed to always bring the right amount of food, made sure none of us drowned, and taught a generation how to do the crawl stroke.

After moving to Spokane, she went back to school and earned Master of Social Work degree from EWU. She then worked in geriatric care for Lincoln County until her health forced her to retire.

Sue loved spending time with her family, feeding and spoiling her children, grandkids, and great-grand kids. She would spend the entire year carefully shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts for each family member. Each year she insisted on buying her grand kids, and later their kids, a new swimsuit and beach towel. She had a surprisingly ruthless competitive streak that would manifest when playing Mexican Train, leading to outrageous comments and side-splitting laughs. In the summertime she enjoyed sitting under a tree, reading a romance or mystery novel, and sipping her iced tea. If a neighbor happened to stop and visit while she was out there, all the better.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Barbara Alling; and her first husband, Edward Kelley. She is survived by her brothers; Benjamin and Evelyn Alling; Jack and Judy Alling and their families. Her children Leann and Ken Krick; Jim and Shannon Lambert; and Karen and Jason Miller. As well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at Spring Canyon Cemetery on Sunday, Oct 3rd at 11am. Please come and share your stories of Sue with her family.

Kathy Andrade writes:

I have countless fond memories of overnight birthday slumber parties as a kid at Mrs. (Lambert) Alling's house. Leann and I were in the same class and her mom always made the tastiest treats and made each party so much fun! My heartfelt sympathy to Leann, Jimmy and Karen and their familes!
