The school board and superintendent look out on April 12 from the back of what's left of the old high school, now called the CTE building, toward the new school complex. Next Monday the Grand Coulee Dam School District Board of Directors will choose an architect to help design the future of their facilities.

On April 19, the board interviewed two architectural firms: Design West Architects and NAC Architecture, and will choose one of them on April 26.

"The board this week is looking at the material, looking through their Statements of Qualifications, so they can be ready," Superintendent Paul Turner told The Star on Tuesday. "Either one of them will be very good for us."

Turner said he is looking forward to getting an architect on board for future projects.

"We're trying to get that horse built so we can pull the cart behind it," he said.

Once the architect is selected, the district can collect community input on what they want to do so they can relay those goals to the architect who can then work on designs.

Decisions to be made include what to keep and what to change at the former middle school in Grand Coulee, what sports facilities are there room for on the main campus in Coulee Dam, the option of moving the district office from West Coulee Dam to the old high school building in East Coulee Dam, and more.

The architect will be able to help secure funding for such projects as well as to explain what is plausible to do or not.
