Bulldogs run over Raiders on football field

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders suffered a loss in Coulee Dam on Saturday when the Okanogan Bulldogs defeated them 27-7, the Raiders' first loss of the season after winning their first three games.

The Okanogan running game proved to be too tough for the Raiders to overcome.

After going three and out to start the game, the Raiders punted to the Bulldogs, who scored on the first play of their drive, a touchdown run that spanned more than half the length of the field, roughly 70 yards.

On the next drive, the Raiders gained ground after pass interference was called on Okanogan on a pass intended for Sam Wapato, putting the Raiders inside the Okanogan 40-yard line.

Quarterback Hunter Whitelaw then aired the ball out to Brit Egbert on a pass, moving the Raiders inside the 20.

From there, the Raiders got their only score of the game on a touchdown pass from Whitelaw to Wapato.

The Bulldogs ran in another touchdown to go up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The toughness of the Bulldogs against the Raiders was evident as one tired Raider coming off the field said, "Holy, I need to chill for a sec."

Another long Bulldog run, again over half the field length, resulted in a touchdown putting the Bulldogs up 21-7 before the end of the first half.

The Okanogan quarterback ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, and a missed extra point set the score at 27-7, the final score, although both teams made concerted efforts to score again.

A slew of penalties on both teams, including for late hits and unsportsmanlike conduct, had an impact on the second half's pace.

The Raiders next game is in Brewster on Friday, April 2, against the Bears at 7 p.m.
