Lawrence J. "Larry" Whalawitsa

Lawrence J. "Larry" Whalawitsa, 68, born Monday, August 11, 1952, in Nespelem, Washington, to Lawrence E. and Sophie Dick-Whalawitsa, passed away Monday morning, August 31, 2020, in Spokane, Washington. A proud member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, Larry bravely served in the US Army, during which time he was awarded "The Purple Heart" after being wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy. He was then employed for many years with "Ethel M Chocolates" in Las Vegas, Nevada, retiring as Maintenance Supervisor. Most recently, he worked with the custodial staff at the Tribal Casino in Coulee Dam, Washington. Larry enjoyed Beading, Bowling, Hunting, Fishing and taking long road trips.

Preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Dick-Whalawitsa; sons: Jeremiah Whalawitsa and Matthew Whalawitsa and brothers: Lance Whalawitsa and Johnny Whalawitsa; Larry's legacy lives on through his father, Lawrence E. Whalawitsa; daughter: Shaundiin Whalalwitsa-Curley; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters: Shirley Whalawitsa-Apodaca (Martin) and Patti Woodward as well as many other close friends and family who will miss Larry greatly. Larry was a beloved friend to everyone with his kindness and generosity with his big warm smile. Larry was a beloved son, brother, uncle and most of all, a loving father.

A time for Larry's family and friends to visit and pay their respects was held Friday, September 4, 2020. Due to the present Covid-19 situation, Larry's Memorial Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. At his request – cremation has taken place..
