Danny Stone

The Grant County Commissioner #1 position is between Earl Romig of Moses Lake and Danny Stone of Hartline, both Republicans.

Stone lives north of Hartline and Almira and manages a dry-land grain operation in Grant and Lincoln counties.

He has served as a Precinct Committee Officer in both Lincoln and Grant Counties and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Grant County Republican Central Committee as the 12th Legislative District chair.

"I am a Christian and a constitutional conservative which puts me in the camp of those who are both socially conservative and fiscally conservative," he writes on his website.

He lists taxpayer funds as a crucial issue, saying it is important for a commissioner to recognize "that the funds they work with are the hard-earned dollars of our county taxpayers. It's their money. The integrity to judiciously allocate that money for the needs of our county is crucial."

Other issues he lists as crucial include supporting agriculture, supporting law enforcement, transportation, responsible economic development, protecting those with mental health issues, and addressing drug use and homelessness, on which he says that "we need to deal with that compassionately, but responsibly."

Romig is a former Grant County Sheriff's deputy whose career was cut short when he was shot in a hunting accident by another hunting party.

Earl Romig

Romig says in a video shared on his Facebook page that politics is a way for him to get back to performing his civic duty.

He says that he is fiscally conservative, and he speaks about two big issues in the county.

One of those issues is the efforts of some to "defund the police," he says.

"I have firsthand experience as a police officer, and I believe that defunding the police is not the answer," he said. "Local law enforcement will have my full support."

The other issue is the COVID-19 pandemic and its detrimental economic effect.

"How do we effectively get the economy back up and running?" he asks. "This will take a consolidated effort on behalf of everyone from local government to small business to the citizens, and I want to help lead this effort."
