GCHS Alumni Association to meet

The fall meeting of the Grand Coulee High School Alumni Association will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, at the Grand Coulee Community Church, 405 Center Street. The meeting is open to anyone who has an interest in the former Grand Coulee School District 55 schools.

In its 20th year, the Alumni Association was formed the fall of 2000 by graduates from the classes of 1954 and 1958 with three original purposes: awarding scholarships each year, developing a database of addresses of alumni to be used by reunion organizers, and to form a communication link among GCHS alumni, staff and faculty. As of June 2018, the association had awarded $24,000 in scholarships. Changes by the Alumni Board made it possible to include graduating seniors from schools other than L.R.H.S. in the eligibility for the scholarships if they were direct descendants of any person who had attended Grand Coulee Dam School District 55 at any time during its 38 years as an entity . Scholarships this past spring totaling $1,000 were awarded to seniors from Newport and Pasco. Four $500 scholarship were also awarded to college students continuing their education.

Money for the scholarships is derived from dues of $10 annually for each alumnus and lifetime memberships of $500 per family. Gifts given in memory of alumni who have passed away increase the amount available for awards, as is the case for this coming spring. The Association is grateful for each gift, and this is a meaningful way to remember a late classmate or relative who attended Grand Coulee schools.

The Association organizes All-Class Reunions every fourth summer in the year of the Olympics. The next all-class reunion will take place the weekend of August 7-8, 2020.
