The city of Grand Coulee was presented with a plaque commemorating perfect compliance in regard to their wastewater treatment plant.

The award was presented Sept. 18 before the city council by Kim Prisock of the Department of Ecology, the fourth year in a row Grand Coulee has won the award.

“As far as our region goes,” Prisock said, “you’re one of the few that has achieved perfect compliance, which means there were no violations, you operated within your permit limits the entire time, and that you didn’t miss a single sample.”

Prisock estimated that workers must take 100 samples per month, reporting on 125 parameters.

“All their reports have been submitted on time,” Prisock said, “They’ve done all we’ve asked them to do. We really appreciate that. It helps protect water quality. Our program is meant to clear up water pollution, help communities make sustainable choices, and to help communities prevent water quality problems.”

“I fully expect five in a row, which comes with a bigger plaque,” Prisock said.

Dennis Francis, city superintendent, joked that they’re going to need a bigger wall for all the plaques.
