Raider tennis players hosted Tonasket Tiger opponents before the girls hosted Wilbur and the boys traveled to Pateros to compete last week.

Against Tonasket on April 10, both the boys' and girls' Raider teams lost with scores of 4-1.

Winning for the boys that day was Raider Morgan George, who defeated Ben Johnson 6-0, 6-1.

The Lady Raider who was victorious was Alexia Ryan, who defeated Julie Bello 3-6, 6-4, and 6-1.

"Alexia, at number-one girls' singles, got a good win, coming back after dropping the first set," remarked Head Coach Steve Archer.

Hosting Wilbur/Creston on Friday the 13th, the girls won 3-2.

"This was a great event," Archer said. "We always enjoy playing against Wilbur/Creston."

Ryan had another win at number-one singles in a nearly two-hour, close match.

"Pulling out the win shows she's developing some strong determination to press through to the end," Archer said.

"Shayla and Raven at first doubles was another close match," Archer continued. "They were really coming on in the second set, tying it up at 6-6 to force a tie-breaker, but were unable to close it out."

Coach Janice Archer added, "They never cease to amaze me how they fight back even when down. Their net play in the second set made the difference."

The Raider boys played in Pateros on the same day, winning 3-1.

"Malcolm [Carson] and Bradley [Wilder] both had close matches, winning their first sets, dropping their second and winning the third deciding set," Archer explained. "They both played well and enjoyed the close competition."
