Fire and ambulance calls recounted

The Grand Coulee volunteer fire department had 52 fire calls and 480 ambulance calls in 2017, according to a report to the city council last week.

In December, the final reporting month, the fire department answered six calls: two in Grand Coulee, including one on an alarm and a second on a citizen assist; two in Coulee Dam on mutual aid; and two in Lincoln County on controlled burns.

The ambulance service had 34 calls, five in Coulee Dam, 22 in Grand Coulee and six transports.

City salaries approved

Grand Coulee council approved salary levels for appointed personnel at its meeting last week.

The amounts were retroactive to Jan. 1, 2018. The police chief salary is $53.63 an hour; the city clerk is paid $24.15 an hour; and the utility foreman earns $31.29 an hour. The resolution passed unanimously.

Donations accepted

Monday night the Grand Coulee Dam School District school board accepted two donations. Jess Ford dealership presented a check for $667 check for the Steve Breeze Memorial Scholarship. Grand Coulee Community Church donated $100 for the district’s dietary program.

In other business, the school board made one hire and accepted a resignation at its meeting Monday night. Hired was Joan Gross, as a bus driver, and resigning was safety/security officer Matt Maus.

School counts given

The average full-time student count for January in the Grand Coulee Dam School District was 697. The largest classes were the ninth grade, with 72 students, and the fifth grade, with 70 students.

Nespelem School District reported serving 131 students in kindergarten through eighth grades, but not including its preschool operation.
