Gillnetters get sentences

Three Tacoma men arrested by state Fish and Wildlife agents for poaching 376 whitefish from Banks Lake Dec. 8 pleaded to the charges and got light sentences in a Grant County District Court, according a Spokesman Review outdoors blog.

One man’s 90-day jail sentence was reduced to 40 hours community service and he was fined $1,068, but the over-limit charges were dropped.

The other two each have to pay $300 fines and put in eight hours of service, the report stated, noting that law enforcement agents were not pleased with the outcome after “a lot of work.”
