Lasers write giant Seahawk 12 on Grand Coulee Dam

There couldn't be more concrete evidence of the Pacific Northwest's support of the Seattle Seahawks for their bid to repeat last year's Superbowl victory tomorrow, than a big 12 emblazened on the great Grand Coulee Dam.

Friday night, as workers doing maintenance work on the largest nightly laser light show in the country tuned the lasers at Grand Coulee Dam 90 miles east of Spokane, Wash., they made a 300-foot tall blue and green "12" light up the spillway on the face of the dam, presumably to tune the green- and blue-making lasers.

Lumalaser, of Eugene, Ore., built the new laser show, which debuted last summer and is shown on the face of the dam every night through the summer and fall, for $1.6 million.

But taking a break from the pre-programmed story of the dam, the river and the people it has affected, last night they showed a little Seahawks spirit.

They fired in lasers the symbol of some the most ardent football fans in history across the face of the mile-long dam that is the largest concrete structure in North America and the biggest single producer of electric power in America.

The crew has reportedly headed back to Oregon today, but Glo Carroll, of Coulee Dam, caught the image shown here Friday night and posted it to The Star's Facebook page.
