The Trees of Sharing program will touch 148 children from 58 local families this year. Area residents are encouraged to purchase gifts based on the information on the tree ornaments. It is suggested that gifts be in the $20 range. Trees of Sharing are located at Flo’s Cafe, Safeway Pharmacy, North Cascades Bank, Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union and Harvest Foods. Gifts need to be placed under one of the trees by Dec. 13-14. If you have questions call Linda Black, 633-3611 or Mary Ann Boll, 633-0305.

Counting

the days

The school day lost when the new school complex had an electrical problem, Nov. 5, will be made up on June 17, Superintendent Dennis Carlson advised the school board at its last meeting. School districts are required by state law to schedule at least 180 days of school.

County to spend all tourism

money

Grant County will spend all of the money it expects to receive from a tax on tourists next year to fund more tourism promotion, some $489,005.

County commissioners approved the county’s $133 million budget on Monday, including the tourism expenditure, funds for which come from taxes on nights spent at motels and campgrounds.

The largest single, clearly defined expense category in the county budget is the more than $29 million it will spend on roads, followed by solid waste at $18.9 million. Its current expense fund, through which most expenses are paid, is set at nearly $37.3 million.

Sheriff issues scam alert

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says scammers have been calling people claiming to be from a law enforcement agency, then trying to scare them into paying money to clear an arrest warrant.

“The caller says to avoid jail time, the person must buy a Green Dot card and upload money on to it,” the sheriff’s office says. “This is a scam. People should not to buy the card or give out credit card information.”

Grant County residents who have been a victim of the scam should call 509-762-1160 to report the incident.

Consortium

to meet

The Coulee Corridor Consortium will hold its Dec. 19 meeting at Don’s Restaurant in Soap Lake at noon. Among items on the agenda will be nominations for secretary and first vice president.

A tea invite

The Zion Lutheran Church ladies in Grand Coulee are inviting women in the area to their annual Christmas tea to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the church located at 348 Mead Avenue.

Big bazaar

coming Saturday

The 42nd Annual Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Lake Roosevelt High School gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 50 vendors will be present. The class of 2015 will be selling concessions.

Fund raiser for food and gifts Friday

A Spaghetti Feed fundraiser for the Trees of Sharing and the Care and Share Food Bank will be held at Flo’s Cafe Friday, Dec. 5, from 4:30-7:30. Those who can’t come to the spaghetti feed but who would like to contribute can make cash donations at North Cascades Bank or the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union.
