Coulee Dam town councilmember Dave Schmidt announced that approximately $28,000 in new playground equipment will be installed at the Mason City Park by July 4. The site was chosen because of its heavy use by tourists.

The Miss Grand Coulee Dam committees have decided to retire the parade float and will not be participating in any parades this year. The 1962 Volkswagen  chassis is the reason for the decision.

Heather Brashears, 14, has been named the first Bullarama Queen by the Ridge Riders. Heather is the daughter of Dale and Fawn Brashears of Electric City.

A 19 year old local man was found Thursday morning tangled in barbwire fencing near Manilla Creek Road. It was reported that the man was beaten with a baseball bat fracturing his arm and both hands, the Colville Tribal Police report stated. The incident is under investigation.

New councilmen were sworn in this week in Coulee Dam. The Council now consists of Bob Mueller, Jack Barnard, Jim Cobb, Jack Reilley and Merv Schmidt. This announcement came from Mayor Carlos Hughes.

Announced this week by the Colorama Committee, Colorama Rodeo has been named the Biggest Rodeo in the Northwest. The committee also announced plans to get bigger this year with a third day of events added to the schedule.

Marine Private Eldon L. Wilson, grandson of Mrs. Sadie Williams of Nespelem, has completed a week of testing and training at the Naval Air Academy in Memphis, TN. 

The Grand Coulee Tigers won big over Almira in baseball last week winning 19-0. Jim Flowers was on the mound for Grand Coulee and got the win.

The Beavers got a baseball win over the Oroville Hornets 6-4. John Rice was the hitting star for Coulee Dam, going 3 for 3 and driving in 4 runs.

60 Years Ago

The body of 67 year old Fred Overly was found Saturday by two fishermen near Steamboat Rock. Overly and a companion both drowned Nov. 22nd while on a hunting trip in the area.
