Looking at a monument

Officials from the town of Coulee Dam traveled to Colville last Thursday to look at a monument that was originally located here in 1938 to honor those who died during construction of Grand Coulee Dam. The monument was relocated to the Stevens County Court House lawn because of non-payment of the $1,750 bill. It's currently Stevens County veterans memorial. Coulee Dam is considering erecting a monument here to honor 81 people who died during construction on the project. From the left are researcher Susan Dechant, town Councilmember Gayle Swagerty, and Mayor Greg Wilder. The monument, if the town proceeds with the project, would be constructed from hotel/motel tax dollars. Dechant will be here April 23, to address the Coulee Dam council.
