Sharon Ann Redthunder ‘KIST’, 67, left this earth Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico following complications of lupus to a place free of suffering. Kist was born in the Nespelem, Washington home of Ned Comedown Sr. & Christine Socula-Comedown on October 23, 1945. Sharon graduated Coulee Dam High School in 1963 and also attended Eastern Washington State University. On Saturday, January 15, 1966, twenty year old Sharon Comedown married her life’s companion Keith Redthunder in Coeur d’alene, Idaho.

A proud member of the Nez Perce and Moses Columbia bands, Sharon always enjoyed attending services at the Nez Perce Longhouse and dancing and visiting at Powwows throughout the country.

Sharon’s lifework included many years associated with the Native National Indian Land Working Group and positively impacting National Land issues benefiting all tribes. Always willing to serve others, Sharon was a diligent member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Nespelem American Legion Post #114, chairman of the Nespelem Senior Center, and past Parent of Indian Education. Sharon could be seen racing to the yard sales early in the mornings, bowling in tournaments, second hand shopping, making her magic meatloaf or attending all her grandchildren’s activities.

Predeceased by parents Ned and Christine Comedown, 3 brothers: Ned Comedown Jr, Martin Comedown (and Sherry), and Albert Comedown and sister Alberta. Sharon’s legacy proudly lives on through her 47 year love: Keith Redthunder; their children-Terri, Sharey, and Lyle Redthunder; five favorite beloved grandchildren, numerous extended family members, powwow people and her numerous colleagues throughout the United States.

Sharon’s dressing will take place at 1:00pm at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, WA on Wednesday, January 16, 2012, with a 7:00pm wake scheduled at the Nespelem Community Center on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, with Sunrise Wahshut funeral services the following Thursday, January 17, 2013. Burial will follow at Little Nespelem Cemetery with family reconvening at NCC for dinner giveaways, etc.
