State Department of Transportation officials next Tuesday will present to the Transportation Commission, meeting in East Wenatchee, a suggested name for the new Keller Ferry being built to serve State Route 21 across the Columbia River on Lake Roosevelt.

The route connecting Lincoln and Ferry counties, currently served by the 64-year-old Martha S., has been operated by DOT since 1931.

The agency collected name suggestions from the public, which were then reviewed by a naming committee made up of tribal, community and state representatives. The commission is scheduled to take action on this name request at 3:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the East Wenatchee City Hall, 271 9th Street N.E., starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 19. The meeting is open to the public and persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 4 p.m.

The agenda also features a series of short presentations and discussions about current successes and challenges, future plans and needs for transportation in Douglas and Chelan counties, including roads, rail, public transportation and trails. The meeting will include a panel discussion focused on local funding challenges and a discussion of the regional transportation vision. Another session will address the role of Pangborn Field in regional economic development.

The East Wenatchee meeting is one of several the commission will hold throughout the state to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region.
