The Lady Tigers soccer team caught the Lady Raiders by the toe on Saturday in Tonasket, making them pay with a final score of 5-1. "We couldn't stop [Tonasket's] number two from scoring in the first half, although in the second half Loryn Moore and the defense shut her down," said LR Head Coach Casey Moore. "She scored four points right away. We just couldn't catch up." Maddie Toulou scored LR's only goal, dribbling through two defenders off a pass from Loryn Moore. "Our team did a better job...
Raider runners ran at the Oroville Invitational on Friday the 13th, held at Lake Osoyoos State Park. Runners said that the cold and windy weather impacted their performance. “Every race has its challenges,” Head Coach Brian Daniels said. “The lake was qui...

Playing the Bridgeport Fillies at home Oct. 3, LR closed the game out in three sets for the win. "The game progressed like I hoped," Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. Lake Roosevelt harriers ran in Eastside Park in Omak Oct. 4. "The Omak invite went great," Head Coach Brian Daniels said. "Nearly every runner had a PR (personal record) for the race. They ran fast and did very, very well." The course was run mostly on paved and dirt roads, with some grass surfaces at the finish. "Weather was great. A bit cool, which I feel is pretty ideal for a race," Daniels said. Top Raider finishers were, for the boys, Adam George who placed ninth; and for the girls, Kyona...

Lake Roosevelt senior Elijah Harris has verbally committed to play football at Eastern Oregon University, where an athletic scholarship will help pay the cost of attending college. "They are giving me a huge opportunity," Harris said. "It is a great school and has the academics that I am looking for. I would like to get my English degree and then my master's in teaching." EOU was already interested in Harris, and when his former LR football coach, Loren Endsley, went there to be the offensive...

Maddie Toulou also scored two goals, and Bryn Chaffee scored one off a penalty kick. On Saturday the Lady Raiders played at Liberty Bell against the Lady Mountain Lions, who won 3-0. "We controlled most of...

The Lady Raiders are entering the league season with an overall 7-1 win-loss record, following a loss against Brewster and a win against Soap Lake last week. The Lady Raiders lost to the Lady Bears in three sets Sept. 26 in Brewster. "Brewster was the better team for the night," said LR Head Coach Kasey Garvin. "We struggled early with passing and putting anything fluid together. We started to find a passing groove in the last two sets, but our net play lacked. It felt like we were playing...

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders competed at the Tonasket Invitational on Thurs., Sept 28. "It was a challenging meet," said Head Coach Brian Daniels. "Just in terms of the course, there's a big hill that they had to climb twice. I thought we had done a lot of hill work, but having to do that in a race setting was a challenge." The coach said that, facing the grass-gravel-dirt surfaced, 2.8-mile course (shorter than the usual 3.1-mile course), his runners performed consistently with how they've been...

Lady Raider soccer had a tough week, losing a couple of close games. In Okanogan on Sept. 26, the Lady Raiders lost to the Lady Bulldogs, 3-0. "It was a difficult game to watch," said Head Coach Casey Moore. "Our team didn't play as aggressive as usual. They did well on communication and passing. Maddie (Toulou) had several close attempts. Okanogan is a solid team and they deserved their 3-0 win. Our team played better than last year, and we are looking forward to a rematch with Okanogan next...

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders are in need of some antihistamine after getting stung by the Oroville Hornets on Friday night. Leading 8-6 at the half, the Raiders lost the lead, then the game, when the Hornets put up 27 points in the third quarter. It wasn't a total blowout, as the Raiders put up eight points in the third, and eight in the fourth, with a final score of 33-24. In the first quarter, a Hornet fumble recovered by Raider Dylan Steinert gave LR good field position. A pristine pass from...

Lady Raider volleyball is killing it, having nabbed a couple more wins to go 6-0 for the season. The Lady Raiders defeated Okanogan on the road on Sept. 19, winning three sets to the Lady Bulldogs' two. "Great win for the Lady Raiders," Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. "It's been a number of years in the making, but the girls conquered the evening with five very long sets for the win." "There were a lot of long volleys in each set accounting for the high accounting of digs my girls tallied up, fini...

The Raider football team squeaked by with a win on Friday in Brewster against the Bears, winning 24-19. "It was a good win," said Head Coach Bubba Egbert. The Raider cross country team ran in a massive race on Saturday in Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee, where the boys' race fielded 170 runners and the girls' race 115. Coach Brian Daniels said the number of runners likely had an effect on the race. "It was a pretty good mass of people at the start of the race especially," he said. "It was a very large meet with some large teams." Saturday gave the Raiders a good day for running with warm weather and clear skies. "It was at a really long park...

Kyona Edmo placed third out of the 23 girl runners, finishing the 5,000-meter race with a time of 23 minutes, 4 seconds. Hannah Wapato and Kayla St. Pierre also finished in the top 10,...

The Lady Raiders competed in two games and a jamboree in the past week, winning both games and having fun competition at the jamboree. The ladies opened their season by defeating Bridgeport on the road three games to two. "I decided to try out various options," said Head Coach Kasey Garvin. "We ran different hitting tempos, alternative line-ups, and offenses. I took the opportunity to experiment during our first non-league match." The first eight games of the season are "non-league," meaning the...
This week the Raiders traded in Friday night lights for Monday night football in Manson, where the Mustangs defeated the Raiders 14-8. The smoke that had been in the air was responsible for the schedule change. In the second quarter, Raider quarterback Steven Flowers ran 32 yards for a touchdown, and, with a successful two-point conversion, put the Raiders up 8-0 at halftime. But the Raiders gave up their lead in the third quarter when the Mustangs made it into the end zone twice. “We just didn’t make enough plays to get it done,” said Raide...
Raider boys and girls went the distance at the Moses Lake Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. “I was really pleased with our performance,” said Raider Head Coach Brian Daniels. “I think everybody did really well for their first meet.” The 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) races were moved from Friday to Saturday to allow the smoke in the air to clear out more. “The weather was great,” Daniels said. “The sky was quite clear. Great temperature. Slight breeze coming in from the lake. The course was at a park, so the entire run was on grass. We had o...
