  • New boys’ basketball coach resigns

    Scott Hunter|Nov 21, 2012

Kyle Desautel has resigned as head boys’ basketball coach at Lake Roosevelt High School. Desautel said Tuesday that personal legal issues were pending, which could get in the way of doing the job he was hired last spring to do. “We didn’t feel we wanted to leave the kids hanging, leadership-wise,” he said. Athletic Director Rich Black said Desautel had made the decision last week, and formal acceptance of his resignation would go before the school board. Desautel has filled the assistant coach position under Brad Wilson for the last six yea... Full story

Laramie became the leader for the Lady Raiders during the mid-season swing, which saw Lake Roosevelt climb up to challenge Liberty Bell and Bridgeport for playoff spots. Five Raider football players have been recognized this week by league coaches, and two were chosen for both offense and defense. The coaches of the Central Washington 2B League got together last week to name the outstanding players of the season who deserve to be recognized with “all league” honors. The coaches selected seniors Sean Waters and Justus DeWinkler for both the all-league second-team offense and defense. Waters overcame an injury and a position change on offense to earn the honor on offense; and played hard on defense, pro... Full story

  • Lady Raiders finish 7-9

    John McNeil II|Nov 7, 2012

A nervous Lady Raider squad faced the top team in the league last week, then ended their second chance at a state berth to close their season with a seven-win, nine-loss record. The Lady Raiders played their last two matches of the 2012 season on the road at Bridgeport and Kittitas. At Bridgeport Tuesday, the Lady Raiders started the match playing timid and inconsistent. “They were nervous and honestly scared to be playing the number-one team in our league,” Coach Nate Piturachsatit said. “We talked at the beginning of the game how there is no... Full story

With the 34-12 loss, the Raiders dropped to 1-9 overall, and finish sixth in Central Washington 2B play. Senior Night was spoiled for the Raiders as the White Swan Cougars scored often and cut short many Raider drives for a 54-20 victory on LR’s home field Friday night. The score at halftime stood at 21-7 Cougars, and it looked like the Raiders would have a chance. Then in the second half, the Cougars ratcheted up their performance level and left the Raiders in the dust. “I thought we competed hard throughout the game,” Head Raider Coach Steve Files said. “They are a quality team with good speed.... Full story

The Raiders’ times were not as good as they were two weeks ago, but, Head Coach Gary Darnold said, “It was a pretty demanding course and all worked their hardest on it.” “With a fairly tough week of training, I expected them not to necessarily have their best races as we prepare for district and regionals,” the coach noted. He p... Full story

  • Runners hold their stride at Oroville meet

    John McNeil II|Oct 17, 2012

The Raiders sent only eight runners to Oroville, Saturday, where five Lake Roosevelt boys and three girls held their own as they view the post season in the near future. That number of boys put the team at the minimum to run as a varsity squad, while the girls all ran as individuals. This did not hamper the runners as all present continued to hold their own, either improving on or maintaining their times from last week. This is where the Raiders want to be as the postseason looms on the horizon. Lukas Hermetz continues to lead the Raider boys,... Full story
