  • Lady Raiders finish season at districts

    Lady Raiders Volleyball finished the 2015 season in Ephrata, playing in the pigtail match of the District 5-6 Volleyball Tournament. LR came into the tournament as the number-five seed from the Central Washington 2B North and played number-four Waterville Shockers from the CW 2B South in a pigtail match to start the tournament.   • Moore is heading to state

    Loryn Moore will compete at the state cross country meet Saturday for the second year in a row, after qualifying at the District 5-6 race at Wentachee last weekend. “Loryn Moore ran a very aggressive race, placing second and qualifying for state,” Raider Head Coach Gary Darnold said. “She was nearly a minute faster than her time on the same course last year at the same district race.” Moore crossed the finish line at 20 minutes, 53 seconds, a career personal record.   • Raiders defeat Kittitas 28-12

    Interceptions, long touchdown runs and a good air attack earned Lake Roosevelt its first football win in weeks Friday night at home against Kittitas. With the 28-12 win, the Raiders ended a three-game losing streak and put themselves in a mood for this Friday's rematch with Soap Lake. LR had moved some players around due to injury, and played a successful game that keeps them in the running for a crossover game spot.     Raider Cross Country traveled to Liberty Bell Saturday for the Central Washington B North Cross Country Championship in preparation for this week's District 5-6 race at Wenatchee. Liberty Bell won both the boys' and girls' league championships.     The Lady Raiders split their volleyball matches again last week, winning on the road at Tonasket but losing at home against Brewster.     Lady Raider Volleyball split the two matches contested last week. In the first at Bridgeport Oct. 13, the Lady Raiders lost to the Fillies three games to two. Then on Thursday at home, Lake Roosevelt defeated the Manson Trojans three games to one. Against Bridgeport, the Lady Raiders won the first two games, then lost the last three, two of them by only two points. The fourth game went to extra points to decide the game.     Lake Roosevelt and White Swan played a scoreless first half before the Cougars wore down the Raiders and won 31-12 at the LR homecoming game Friday night. The loss puts LR's win-loss record at 0-3 in Central Washington 2B South play, and at 2-4 overall. "We played a competitive game against a physical team," Head Raider Coach Geary Oliver said.     Raider cross country runners finished the regular season at Oroville last Saturday at the Oroville Invitational. In a field featuring good teams from across the region, the Raider boys finished seventh overall in team scoring. Three of the seven Raider boys running finished with a personal record time. Only two girls represented LR at Oroville. Robert George finished first for LR again, crossing the line at 19 minutes, 17 seconds for 18th overall.     The Raiders travelled a long way to Mabton to play a team that is ranked highly in the state ,and played like it. The Mabton Vikings defeated Lake Roosevelt 65-14. “We continue to play hard,” Head Coach Geary Oliver said of his team’s performance. “Mabton is ranked sixth in the state, and for good reason.” Oliver noted a good performance from Jesse Louie. “Jesse Louie continues to run well and is one of our leading receivers,” he said.     The Warden Cougars struck early and often on the Raiders Friday night, building a halftime lead that Lake Roosevelt could not overcome on their home field in Coulee Dam. At halftime, Warden led 53-6 before the Raiders managed to get past their big line a few more times. The final score was Warden 60, LR 24.     Raider cross country travelled to Kettle Falls Saturday for the CAN-AM Invite, hosted by Colville High School.     The Lady Raiders won in three after losing in three last week. On Manson’s home court, Lake Roosevelt lost in a three-game set Sept. 22 before defeating Tonasket in Coulee Dam Thursday in a three-game sweep. The match at Manson was disappointing as the Lady Raiders came out with poor energy, head coach Kasey Garvin said. “They came in with a very strong energy, and we had no energy,” she said.   • New basketball coach hired for Lake Roosevelt Jr./Sr. High

    The school district has hired a new head boys' basketball coach. Lake Roosevelt High School Coach Mario Adams arrived in the coulee area last week and plans to be a substitute teacher in the district. "He is passionate about helping develop young men into responsible adults and successful athletes," Athletic Director Rich Black said of Adams in recommending him to the school board for confirmation.     Steven Flowers' touchdown with 42 seconds left in the game kept the Raiders from a scoreless loss against Soap Lake Friday night. Flowers ran the ball in from 54 yards out, and the kick was good to give Lake Roosevelt seven points to the Eagles' 34.     Lady Raider Volleyball continued to find success in the early season with another win at Oroville in a three-game match last week. “My entire team is showing great improvement,” Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. “They are doing a great job applying the things that they are learning in practice in their game play.” LR swatted the Hornets in the Sept. 15 match: 25-13, 25-15, 25-20.     Raider Cross Country travelled to Spokane Valley to compete in the Runners Soul Erik Anderson Invitational last week. There were more than 300 runners present from all classifications of schools across Eastern Washington and North Idaho at the race. “Our boys’ and girls’ teams both pushed themselves very hard to compete in the race in Spokane against some very large schools,” Head Coach Gary Darnold said.
