    by John R. McNeil II Raider golf enters the last week of the regular season in high spirits after a strong showing at the home match last Thursday. Austin Rosenbaum finished third in the boys’ competition with the score of 99 on 18 holes. Rosenbaum was behind Connor Hughes of Oroville, who shot an 88, and Cayden Field of Tonasket, who shot a 97. Tanecia Stanczak took first in the girls’ competition, shooting a 95 on 18 holes. Stanczak’s closest opponent was Jordyn Smith of Oroville, who shot a 1... Full story

    Raider baseball competed in the District 6 playoffs at Wenatchee Valley Junior College on Monday, where they took on the White Swan Cougars in a loser-out game starting at noon. If they had won, they would have gone on to play Riverside Christian at 4 p.m. Win or lose that game, the Raiders would then have been assured a trip back. But first LR needed to beat the Cougars.     The Lady Raiders had a busy softball week, as they played Bridgeport in a doubleheader April 29, a single game against Oroville the next day, and a doubleheader against Pateros May 3. LR came away with one win. The Ladies were informed last week that on May 14 LR will travel to White Swan for district play in game against the Cougars starting at 4 p.m. Against the Fillies on the 29th, the Lady Raiders did not play up to snuff as several errors led to runs and missed opportunities.   • Raiders end regular track season on good notes

    Raider track completed its regular season on Friday at Liberty Bell, with many of the athletes surpassing personal records and placing themselves in position to compete at sub-districts. This year the Raiders will be competing in the Central Washington South Sub-District at Kittitas High School this Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Last week the Raiders travelled to Bridgeport April 30, where Chyenne Kelly-Marconi again placed in all four of her events.     The GCDA Softball league will be holding a informational coaches ‘meeting on Monday, May 20, at 6 p.m., at Loepp's. All interested coaches should attend or send a representative.   • Raider girls' rackets win/lose

    Raider girls won their tennis match April 30 at Wilbur, 5-0. Emily Williams and Lyric Witten both dispatched their opponents with ease. Areielle White played a long, close match with Ashley Potts that ended in victory for White. “The match lasted over two and a half hours,” Raider Head Coach Steve Archer said. “After dropping the first set, she bounced back and out-hustled her opponent, finally winning the third set in a tiebreaker. … The whole team cheered her as she got on the bus.” In doubles action, the Raider domination continued... Full story

  • Lady Raiders softball team completes season sweep of Manson

    The Lady Raiders completed the season sweep of the Manson Trojans on April 23 at Manson by the score of 12-2. The game ended in the fifth inning because of the WIAA 10-run mercy rule. Head Coach Jamie Lezard liked what he saw on the field. The “Lady Raiders played good team ball offensively and defensively, batting .647 for the game,” he said.   • Raiders sweep Oroville, Bridgeport

    Raider baseball completed a season series sweep of the Oroville Hornets April 23 in Oroville, 16-0. Kendal Piccolo pitched a complete game no hitter, a rare pitching feat at all levels of the game. Piccolo backed up his pitching performance by batting four for six on the day. Brady Black picked up two doubles at Oroville. A black mark on an otherwise excellent day for the Raiders was an injury to Justus DeWinkler.   • Golf entering the home stretch

    Raider golf competed at Omak and Lake Chelan last week. Austin Rosenbaum led the Raider boys golfers at Omak April 22, with a 111 on 18 holes, while the Raider girls were led by Tanecia Stanczak, the medalist for the day, with the score of 46 on the nine-hole course. At Lake Chelan April 25, Rosenbaum improved his score to 99 and took home the medal. Stanczak also shot a 99 on the 18-hole course.   • Raider track competes in two meets a week

    Raider track travelled to two meets last week on back-to-back days. The first was at Mansfield on Thursday for the Mansfield Iceberg. This meet was for the B schools as the field consisted entirely of the Central Washington 1B and 2B members. No results had been posted by deadline. The Raiders traveled on Friday to Peshastin for the John Riekie Memorial Invitational, where stiff competition featured almost all the Caribou Trail League and northern schools of the South Central A league.     Chyenne Kelly-Marconi scored all 15 team points the Raiders received at the Clifton Larson Allen Invitational at Quincy last Saturday.     Lady Raider softball had a roller coaster week that finished with a win over the Oroville Hornets on Saturday. The week did not start off like LR would have wanted as the league-leading Mountain Lions of Liberty Bell took their April 16 game 16-1 over the Lady Raiders.     Raider tennis was challenged in last week’s three matches by fatigue, long bus rides, and tough opponents. LR traveled south to White Swan April 16 for a Central Washington B match against the Cougars. The four-hour bus ride came back to haunt the Raiders as both squads were swept by the Cougars.     Raider baseball had a tough week last week as they dropped all three games they played. At Liberty Bell April 16, the league-leading Mountain Lions scored three runs in the first inning and the Raiders could not answer as they went on to lose 6-2. Brady Black, on the mound for five innings, gave up two hits, four earned runs, and struck out four. Kendall Piccolo came in to relieve and gave up only one hit in his inning on the rubber.     Raider track came back from spring break with a two-meet week. The first, at Bridgeport on April 9, was the Brewster Co-Ed Relays. This is a meet where boys and girls are teamed up for relays in all field events.     Raider baseball went on a winning streak, sweeping away all opponents last week. It started on April 9 at Bridgeport, where the Raiders 10- runned the Mustangs, 11-0.     The Lady Raider softball squad posted their first wins of the 2013 season last week by beating the Manson Trojans Saturday in Grand Coulee. Head Coach Jamie Lezard said the girls were happy to be playing at home and picking up the first wins of the season in front of the home crowd at Grand Coulee Dam Middle School. Earlier in the week, Lake Roosevelt travelled to Pateros and lost in a shutout 20-0.     The Raider girls’ tennis squad posted back-to-back wins last week, defeating Wilbur-Creston April 8 and Davenport April 13. Lake Roosevelt’s boys beat Wilbur-Creston, but fell to Davenport.
