  • Lake Roosevelt's future astronauts!

    For eight weeks in November and December, this group of six girls earned a NASA diploma by working on special science curriculum designed by NASA around the International Space Station program. They learned about different types of sciences involved in the ISS. Each week the students were assigned a different mission.   • LR kids have fun with dance

    A cafeteria at Lake Roosevelt Schools roared to life with music, lights, and dancing last this month as more than 75 percent of the classes of 2021 and 2022 attended the dance. As students began jamming to the music, seventh-grader Reniff Herndon took a broom to the floor as an impromptu partner at the Jan. 20 dance in the elementary cafeteria.   • Superintendent gets his actual title

    Yes, the Grand Coulee Dam School District does have a superintendent! A glitch when Paul Turner took over the superintendent position last August was fixed by the school board Monday night. It was one of those things where someone forgot to cross a “t” which prevented Turner’s name from turning up in county records listed as superintendent. Now it’s fixed and Turner, who had served as a vice principal, can now sign his title as “superintendent” without anyone having the license to challenge it.     Connor Crim, Jordon Dewinkler, and Samantha Turner, all of Coulee Dam, made the Eastern Washington University’s Dean’s List for the 2016 fall quarter, the school announced this week. An undergraduate student who earns 12 quality hours and receives a GPA of 3.5 or better is placed on the Dean’s List for the quarter.... Full story

It is a 2-week residential program at 22 different universities and all expenses are covered except transportation to and from the sponsoring university.     The Grand Coulee Dam School District board accepted one resignation and made four hires at its meeting Monday night. Resigning was Loren Endsley as junior high assistant wrestling coach. Hired were Kacey Prindle, assistant leader for fourth- and fifth-grade SHARP Kids; Brad Oliver, JV boys’ basketball coach; Brandi Hansen, seventh-grade girls’ basketball coach; and Deidre Ellsworth, eighth-grade girls’ basketball coach.     An artist whose paintings hang in Lake Roosevelt Schools addressed students at a dedication of the art last week and gave insights into her inspirations for the six works depicting various birds - and one fish.     The public and Lake Roosevelt Schools students will have an opportunity to meet abstract artist Lucinda Parker on Thursday morning, in two sessions. Parker will speak at 9 a.m., and meet with elementary and seventh- and eighth-grade students in the elementary cafeteria. Hired were Jeremy Crollard as seventh grade football coach; and Tom Severns as a school bus driver. Resigning was Pete Adolphe as eighth-grade girls basketball coach.     Nathan Fulton retrieves a rocket after it was launched during Nespelem School's day of rocketry Friday. Science teacher Ralph Rise organized the day and had help from Washington State University personnel.     The Grand Coulee Dam School District board last Thursday evening made a number of hires and accepted five resignations. Hired were Madisyn Byam as 2016 SHARP Kids program leader; Melanie Herndon as LAP paraprofessional; and Jeremy Crollard as assistant boy’s basketball coach.     Nespelem Elementary School’s board of directors saw new uniforms introduced at their meeting Sept. 21, which had been moved ahead from Sept. 26 so that Superintendent Rich Stewart could attend an Impact Aid conference in Washington D.C. Principal Debra Pankey told the board that two Nespelem students are taking algebra at the school through the Spokane Virtual Academy.
