This past weekend, Pat Zlateff attended a reunion to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 EWSC football team's near-perfect season and runner-up finish in the NAIA Championships. That squad, which was the first team inducted into the Eastern Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001, was honored in pre-game introductions at Roos Field (formerly Woodward Field), which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this fall. Richard and Gina Brueske recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple married on July 8, 1967, in Seattle, Washington. They lived in Kent, Washington, where Richard worked at Boeing as an engineer for 33 years and Gina volunteered at numerous organizations and started her career at TOPS Club, Inc. After Richard's retirement in 1995, they decided to relocate to Coulee Dam in 2007 so he didn't have to travel so far for great hunting, fishing and the beautiful eastern Washington... Full story

Joshua Reeder of Grand Coulee just finished the Washington State Patrol Fire Academy. He was at the academy from April 1 through June 25 on a scholarship he was awarded earlier this year. Tim Lynch ended 42 years as manager of Coulee Dam's wastewater treatment plant last Friday. Employees held a party late Friday to acknowledge Lynch's service to the town. LuAnn Aylings retired June 10 from the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union after serving members there for 34 years. Ayling started her credit union career in 1983 as a teller, and soon after was promoted to the loan department. She was promoted again to loan supervisor, and for the past 27 years has served as vice president of lending. Trevor McCleary, 2013 Almira Coulee-Hartline graduate married Nicole Nagy of Liberty, Kentucky, May 2017. Both are Senior Airmen/E-4 serving in the U.S. Air Force. Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union wished a fond farewell to Kris Hare, who retired on April 30 after 22 years of service. Hare began her career with the Credit Union on May 1, 1995 as an administrative assistant to then-CEO David Schmidt. For the last 14 years, she held the position of phone branch manager. Tony Wilson, a 1995 graduate of Lake Roosevelt High School, retired from the military recently after serving 20 years in the U.S. Army. Wilson retired as a master sergeant and served as a combat engineer and explosives ordnance disposal specialist. He served combat deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, and has received the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, the Army Combat Badge, the Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge, the Meritorious Service Commendation... Regional Director Lorri Lee has selected Rob Skordas as the new deputy regional director for Power and Infrastructure in Reclamation's Pacific Northwest Region. Skordas began his new position Oct. 17. He replaces Terry Kent, who will retire at the end of this year. Larry and Gerry Boyd, of Coulee Dam, are proud to announce their grandson, Aaron Boyd Galbraith, completed his three-year residency in internal medicine and will be joining a Kaiser Permanente Primary Care Clinic in Arvada, Colorado, this month. Galbraith, the son of Allan Galbraith and Lorena Boyd, of Wenatchee, Wash., graduated from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, in 2008, with a degree in Biology. Sally Ann Foisy was born in Mason City, Washington and Martin Leroy Blum in Spokane, Washington. Fred and Valeta Long, of Grand Coulee, will celebrate 70 years of marriage on Saturday. They were married April 2, 1946. Home from World War II, Fred had not thought he would ever get married, believing that he would never meet a woman who met his expectations. "But the moment I saw her, I knew she was going to be my wife," he said. "It's been a good 70 years." Fred, 93, and Valeta, 90, have lived in Grand Coulee for the last 23-and-a-half years. Our Okanogan County commissions are considering a grave injustice to families and the future of our county, thinking that a “potential” budget savings solution is to send our presently troubled children out of sight and out of mind. The Omak juvenile detention facility is aged and needs to be brought up to code. But, doing a cost/benefit analysis of capital improvement costs, operating costs and lost jobs against outsourcing this responsibility to another facility 140 miles away is incomprehensible and irresponsible.
