    The Grand Coulee Library closed this week for a lighting upgrade and is expected to re-open in early April, according to the branch’s website. It has been a long-time need, according to library staff, and several boosters of the local branch, who described the old lighting using words like “flickering,” “buzzing,” “humming” and “dim.” The upgrade is intended to make the branch a more pleasant place to visit and work, and will make it more energy efficient, according to Amanda Brack, communications and engagement manager for North Central Was...

    Coulee Dam Police 3/11 - A Grand Avenue man was cited for failure to register a potentially dangerous dog. Back in December 2023, the dog had bitten a police officer at the residence to collect paperwork related to a separate incident. 3/12 - An Electric City woman reported her deceased ex-husband’s vehicle as stolen. The vehicle was first marked as stolen, then unmarked as she had no legal right to the vehicle.     Coulee Dam Police 3/6 - Two propane tanks, seven gallons each, were reported stolen from a trailer on Goodfellow Avenue. There were no cameras that caught the theft and no defining characteristics of them. Police said they would keep an eye out for them. 3/7 - Police saw a boy trying to take the bumper off a car on Tulip Street and Crest Drive. The boy said he had hit a tree with the car on Civic Way before driving to the Tulip/Crest area. Police then learned that the boy, who is unlicensed, had actually hit another car, not a tree.     Under the Broadband Technical Assistance Program, USDA Rural Development is awarding a $250,000 grant to the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation to promote the expansion of high-speed internet in the Colville Reservation in Washington.     Grand Coulee Police 2/12 - A loose dog was reported on Grand Coulee Avenue. The dog had been rounded up by the family that owns it prior to an officer arriving. The officer has to see the dog loose in order to issue an infraction. The Soup Suppers began on Ash Wednesday, February 14th at 6:00 PM and will continue each Wednesday for 6 weeks until March 20. Lent is the 40 day period of reflection and renewal leading up to Easter, which is on Sunday, March 31st this year. Homemade soup and breads will be served, followed by a Bible study.     Grand Coulee 2/7 - The Moose Lodge was found to be secure after an alarm went off there. 2/8 - Police responded to a call regarding a man being on Wenatchee Avenue which is less than 1,000 feet from a Yakima Street residence. The man is restricted from coming within 1,000 feet of that residence due to a protection order. Police searched the area for the man but were unsuccessful in finding him.     Grand Coulee Police 1/29 - Police saw a Nissan Maxima in the ditch near the rodeo grounds on Alcan Road. The car was unoccupied but police were able to contact the registered owner who lives nearby on Cardinal Road. The owner explained that he had arranged for a friend to help tow the car out of the ditch, but who, because of the fog, wouldn’t be able to help until the next morning.
