Grand Coulee Police - A man from Partello Street called police to say he had picked up a bank bag with a dollar bill and a deposit slip inside. Grand Coulee Police 10/26 - Police checked on a report that there was a suspicious man standing in the roadway by Coulee Playland pointing at vehicles as they passed. He told them that he “stretches a lot.” Police told him to stay out of the roadway. 10/27 - A man told police that he had heard that a tenant in his basement apartment on Young Street, who just got out of jail, told some other people that he was going to trash the place he had been asked to get out of at the end of the month. Jeremy Walker, of Eastside Wood Recycling from Moses Lake, starts work on the tear-down of a house at 611 Holly Street in Coulee Dam Monday. It burned Sept. 18, 2012. The firm bid $14,700 to demolish the remains of the house and clean up the property. Citizens complained about the eyesore to the town council. Grand Coulee Police 10/20 - A woman reported that a red vehicle was going down Burdin Boulevard with the driver yelling and honking the horn. Police found the driver and she said she was just looking for her boyfriend and admitting that she had been drinking. She called her brother to come pick her up so she wouldn’t be driving anymore. - Officers saw several women around a red vehicle in the Safeway parking lot playing loud music and hollering. A grateful Nespelem Creek Kids 4-H club gave Merl and Linda Roberts an embroidered Pendleton blanket Oct. 7 in appreciation for working with the group's bee-raising project. Club advisor Ian Wilder said Merle Roberts, a beekeeper himself, supported the project with expertise and experience and plenty of time. The group, with 14-16 kids involved, wanted to raise bees this year to collect honey and wax, help with local pollination needs, and eventually donate to honey to the Convalescent Center... The seniors accept aluminum cans ONLY. Please do not put cardboard, plastic bottles or other aluminum in the collection sacks. In 2013, the Seniors collected 3800 pounds (almost 2 tons) of cans and took in approximately $1500 for the Senior Center. That is approximately 30 cans for everyone in the Grand Coulee Dam area. The program helps keep the doors open at the seniors and keeps the cans out of the landfills. Please do not put other material in with the cans because we have to dispose of it and the and that raises the already high garbage... Full story
Grand Coulee 10/13 - Two semi trucks had pulled into Station One on top of Grand Coulee Dam and USBR Plant Protection asked officers to come in case they needed to stop traffic. The two trucks were able to turn around and didn’t need assistance from police. - Plant Protection advised that there had been a theft of rocks from government property. An 82-year-old man said he took a rock because he didn’t know it was wrong. Alumni Association to Meet Tonight Grand Coulee High School Alumni Association will hold its fall meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 1:00 P.M., at United Methodist Church, 406 Center Street in Grand Coulee. The annual membership meeting of the Okanogan County Historical Society is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Malott Grange Hall. The agenda includes discussion of how to best utilize original water colors by Sally Ward donated by her daughter, Susan. Ward was a prolific artist who lived in Omak for a time. She died in 2010 at the age of 101 in Tucson, Arizona. Keller Elementary students celebrated by participating in the hands-on science experiment, Rockets to the Rescue, designed to help them learn about rockets and aerospace engineering. Grand Coulee Police 10/6 - An officer in pursuit of a vehicle that failed to stop at an intersection reported that his patrol car struck a small animal, thought to be a cat. Later, after dealing with the stop sign violator he returned to the area and looked all over for the animal but couldn’t find it. An hour later a member of the city staff received a call from the veterinary clinic that an elderly lady had dropped off an injured cat and was told the police would pay the bill on the cat. Grand Coulee Police 9/25 - A Nespelem woman was cited for failing to stop at intersections and for not having insurance. She told police she was in a hurry to pick up her children. - Plant Protection advised police that there was a van with California plates full of people at the 230Kv switchyard. Grand Coulee Police 9/21 - Two suspects, one from Monroe and the other from Yakima, were arrested after allegedly taking three pounds of bacon, 6 ounces of pork seasoning and two half-gallon containers of orange juice from Safeway without paying for the items. Both are being charged with third-degree theft. The man from Monroe was also being charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to Grant County Jail.
