  • WSU Master Gardeners of Okanogan County start Plant Problem Diagnostic Clinics

    Plant Problem Diagnostic Clinics have started at the WSU Extension Office located in the Okanogan County Courthouse, room 101. These clinics are a part of the public service that the Okanogan Master Gardener volunteers contribute to the community and are designed to help the backyard and non-commercial gardener identify, diagnose and provide solutions to various problems they may be having in their own gardens. Not so long ago in the summer of 2012, possibly 100 or more trees, many planted when the town was in its infancy, were toppled or uprooted in that weird storm, including two evergreens, towering spruce, that stood in the Mason City Park in Coulee Dam.     Preserving fresh fruits and vegetables is important because it decreases waste and allows you to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables year round. As part of the ‘R-Fit Nation’ program and food preservation education, WSU Colville Reservation Extension is offering canning classes during the months of June and July.     Grand Coulee 7-12 - A resident of Diamond Street in Electric City was advised that noise from his residence was too loud and was told to tone it down. - The bartender of the Electric City Bar and Grille was advised to turn the establishments music down and that if police had another complaint he would be cited. 7/13 - Police advised a man sleeping in his vehicle that he was on private property and would have to move.     Grand Coulee 7/7 - A man reported that he found a motorcycle off the roadway on O”Sullivan Road. Police traced the registered owner to a man living on Hill Avenue and the legal owner a man from Moses Lake. The motorcycle was not stolen but belongs to a person who has a felony warrant out for him.     EPHRATA — A country band with a sound as big as Little Texas will headline the 11th annual Basin Summer Sounds music festival. This year’s event is Friday and Saturday, July 18-19. With hits like “God Blessed Texas,” “Kick A Little,” “What Might Have Been” and “Some Guys Have All the Love,” Little Texas was one of the most popular country bands of the 1990s.     Learn how to compost your yard and garden waste at a free class held on Thursday, July 17th at 6:30 pm in the Grant County Public Works public meeting room. The class will last approximately 90 minutes. The meeting room is located at 124 Enterprise St. SE, Ephrata. After attending the class, one participant from each household will receive a free, portable compost bin. Participants do not need to pre-register to attend.     Grand Coulee Police 6/30 - While cleaning out a vehicle at Jack’s Four Corners, a worker found what he thought was a controlled substance and called the police. Since the vehicle had been involved in a weapons offense, the material was held for a Grant County Sheriff officer. - A man and a woman were arrested after an incident on Kelso Avenue in Electric City.   • Lake will be coming up over 4th of July weekend

    With Lake Roosevelt about 4 feet from being full, the Bureau of Reclamation expects the lake to rise starting July 3 by up to a half foot each day through the weekend. Filling the lake lifts accumulated debris off the shores and into the water where it can be dangerous to boaters. The Bureau of Reclamation is advising people camping along the Lake Roosevelt shoreline over the July 4 weekend to be aware of potential dangers that could exist due to rapidly rising lake levels.
