Those are the dates for the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce’s community yard sale at North Dam Park. It’s part of the chamber’s fall Harvest Festival, with activities planned for the entire family, and even your pets. The community yard (park) sale officially begins at noon on Friday the 13th, and goes to dusk. It resumes at 8 a.m. on Saturday and goes to dusk again. Coulee Pioneer Museum news The Coulee Pioneer Museum thanks the “Historical Book Committee” and “Them Dam Writers,” Edith Lael and 4-Bears for their timely gift so that the museum could purchase access to one of the largest databases to foundations all over the world. Such foundations donate grants to organizations such at the Coulee Pioneer Museum. Ten Years Ago A tense situation came to a peaceful conclusion last Thursday as a Coulee Dam girl, who was feared missing returned safely. Approximately 40 minutes after Tonya Timentwa reported that her 4 year-old daughter Alahna Timentwa was missing, the girl returned to the 1101 Camas Street home. A Grand Coulee Dam Area woman cut off four of her fingers and was still able to drive herself to Coulee Community Hospital for assistance. Get ready for the community’s first Harvest Festival, Sept. 14, 15. It will be a family affair with games for both the kids and adults. A similar, but less ambitious, event happened last October. Ten Years Ago A fire once again hit the Colville Indian Reservation last week as flames charred more than 2,000 acres and threatened several homes. One of the unique attributes of the Coulee is that when you return to this area after a long departure, it appears that nothing has changed. It is the same as when you left. I have heard this hundreds of times from people who have left this area after high school and returned as adults. I think that is kind of a cool way too look at our area. Ten Years Ago Sleeping in the Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Arrival Center parking lot paid off for an Oregon couple last Friday when they were reunited with their pet beagle. Tammy Coyne of Canby, Ore., said her and her husband, Phil’s eight-month-old beagle Daisy escaped from their recreational vehicle during the show.
