Health from the point of view of the healer means not only health in the physical today, but also balance and harmony in all parts of life.

The process of healing is really a process of remembering who you are. To remember who you are means (results in?) rediscovering your path.

“Health” is an abstractly pliable concept. It may be defined merely as the absence of disease and disability. Or it may be given a much more positive meaning such as in The WHO Constitution.

The WHO definition is: Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. In recent years the WHO statement has been amplified to include the ability to lead a socially and economically productive life.

This definition may present an ideal state to some folks. It should perhaps be perceived as a pathway enabling humans to achieve a rewarding and not too painful existence while they cope with an imperfect world.

This year over 2 million people will hear “You have cancer.” Recently a friend told me, “I have a large intestine cancer which has disrupted my major intestines.” That evening my close friend died. I had been helping her write a memoir of her mother’s work for urban Indians of stleh-chatq.

(Cquin tseen:) St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital declares “1 in 5 children will die of cancer.” Our overpaid talking heads have no safety nets for rez kids, no strategies … Their shotgun approaches are ineffective. How can we expect any change? I am now 90 years cancer free. I’ve had invasive annual physical exams where small polyps have been scraped away. I do not rely on IHS for any medical services or procedures. I trust my cardiologists and Jesus. And I do Jesus’ work by paying it forward. So others can live! How about you? What’s your story?
