Guy Francis Moura

Guy Francis Moura, 73, of Grand Coulee passed away early in the morning on March 31, 2026 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane Washington.

Guy was born in Whitefield New Hampshire, lived on Long Island and grew up mostly in Rangeley, Maine. He attended the University of Maine in Orono graduating with a BA in Anthropology in 1977. In 1978, he came west to work on the Chief Joseph Dam Cultural Resource Project on the Columbia River. He continued his work there in 1979 and then made his home in Washington and Oregon. Guy earned his teaching certificate from Central Washington University and taught school in Yakima for a few years, but returned to his first love, archaeology and cultural resource management working on projects in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

In 1982 Guy married Jacqueline Cook in Okanogan. Guy and Jackie celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on March 20, 2026.

Guy began working for the Colville Tribes’ History/Archaeology Department in July 1997, first as the Traditional Cultural Properties Coordinator and later, in 2011, becoming the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO). At the time of his passing, Guy had worked for History/Archaeology for almost 30 years. His primary mission was to protect tribal sovereignty, and the cultural resources of the Colville Tribes. At the 2025 National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers conference, Guy received the Lance Foster Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with the Colville Tribes.

Guy was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodges—Grand Coulee #504. He was a passionate poker player and regularly played in the Moose Poker tournament in Las Vegas. He relished playing slots, loved living in the “Grand Coulee”, enjoyed his co-workers, colleagues, friends, family and home.

Guy is survived by his wife, Jackie; sisters, Antoinette, Kathleen, Stephanie (KP), and brother George. He is also survived by, three nieces and one nephew, grand nieces, grand nephews, and many cousins. Guy was preceded in death by his father, George, mother Katherine, nephew Josh, and sister Barbara.

Guy’s family in Maine, Massachusetts, Texas, California, Florida, New York, and Washington would like to thank the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CTCR) and the Colville Business Council for their kind words, support and their acknowledgment Guy’s life work. We also are grateful to the Coulee Medical Center and Deaconess Hospital for their compassionate care of Guy and his family. Many, many thanks to all of the friends and colleagues who have reached out to us.

Guy will be buried in the Fort Okanogan Memorial Cemetery (Highway 97) with grave side services on May 8, 2026, 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the Fort Okanogan Interpretive Center (Highway 17).
