A Grand Coulee man was arrested Jan. 18 after reportedly admitting to shooting his rifle at a boat on Rufus Woods Lake to try to “scare the occupants away,” a sheriff’s report says.
Deputies of the Douglas County sheriff arrested Shawn W. Robison, 41, after an investigation, a Jan. 22 release from the sheriff’s office states.
One of the five people on the boat called to report the shots, and deputies were dispatched at 8:14 p.m. to the “1000 block” of Strahl Canyon Road, which is at about its intersection with Road 32 NE in a remote section of the county about 25 minutes northwest of Grand Coulee.
A neighbor had reportedly told Robison that people in the boat were shooting from it.
The people in the boat told deputies they’d brought along a rifle for “predator control” but it had been bumped and accidentally fired. They said they fired it again in a safe direction to test it for accuracy, the report says.
Soon after that, they said, they were fired upon from the Douglas County shoreline.
Deputies contacted Robison, who admitted to “firing his rifle at the boat in an attempt to scare the occupants away,” Undersheriff Tyler I. Calle stated in the release.
Robison was arrested for five counts of assault in the first degree and taken to the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.
